Behind the scenes: Who is Sameer Wankhede, the man investigating Aryan Khan? And why is actress Kranti Redkar proud of him?

Sameer Wankhede has become a household name. This kind of fame is almost a rarity for a civil services officer, but Wankhede's several high-profile cases have put the spotlight on the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau, who is a 2008 batch Indian Revenue Service officer.

The 40-year-old officer is currently investigating the drug case that also involves Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's 23-year-old son Aryan.

He has been at the lead of the drugs investigation in India's Tinseltown that began after the sudden death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The investigation involved actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik. Several other B-town stars including Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone had also been summoned by the agency for questioning.

Sameer Wankhede - Beyond The Headlines
Prior to joining the NCB, Wankhede - the son of a police officer - was with the National Investigation Agency, and has also served in the Air Intelligence Unit.

In 2013, when he was with the customs department at Mumbai airport, he reportedly caught singer Mika Singh with foreign currency.

While his history with Bollywood cases may not suggest it - his team recently arrested Arjun Rampal's model-girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades's brother Agisilaos in Goa in a drugs case - Wankhede is reportedly a cinema fan.

He tied the knot with Marathi actress Kranti Redkar in 2017.

Life Away From The Line Of Duty
Redkar, who made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with Prakash Jha's 'Gangajal', in a recent interview to ETimes called her husband an introvert and "very reserved."

The couple are parents to twins, but Wankhede's busy schedule often keeps him away from home and family.

"Our twin babies sometimes miss him at home, which is obvious. They are three-year-old, and missing their father at home is obvious for them. But Sameer knows I am there at home to take care of his family, kids and he does not have to worry about anything. I am so proud that Sameer is sacrificing his personal life, kids and family for the nation," the 39-year-old told ETimes.

Redkar had forayed into the world of cinema with Marathi film 'Sun Asavi Ashi' in 2000. 15 years later, she made her directional debut with 'Kaakan'.

Kranti revealed in the interview that she respects the secrecy that comes with her husband's job, and doesn't ask him to share any details with her.
