Tennis star Leander Paes joins Trinamool Congress

Panaji (Goa) , October 29 (ANI): Tennis player Leander Paes joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa on Friday in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

The 48-year-old Indian tennis legend has won eight doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honour, in 1996-97, the Arjuna Award in 1990, the Padma Shri award in 2001 and India's third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan prize in January 2014, for his outstanding contribution to tennis.

He won a bronze medal for India in singles in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Paes competed in consecutive Olympics from 1992 to 2016, making him the first Indian and only tennis player to compete at seven Olympic Games.

Earlier in the day, Bollywood actress Nafisa Ali and Mrinalini Deshprabhu joined the TMC.

The developments come ahead of Assembly polls in Goa scheduled to be held early next year.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Chief Minister who is in Goa is scheduled to interact with party workers and the fishermen community here today. (ANI)

'Eternally Grateful To Play War Hero': Kangana Ranaut Wraps Up Shoot Of Tejas, Shares Video

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who will be seen playing the role of an Indian Air Force officer in ‘Tejas’, has wrapped up the shoot of the film on Saturday (October 30). The ‘Panga’ star took to social media to share a video to inform her fans that ‘Tejas’ will hit the silver screens in 2022. 

Kangana expressed her gratitude towards the makers and said that she is grateful for playing a war hero in the film. She wrote, “Another beautiful journey comes to an end. It’s a wrap for Tejas. What a ride. Above all what an opportunity. This will make the entire Nation proud. Thank you @sarveshmewara for choosing me. Thank you @rsvpmovies Ronnie sir for believing in me. Thanks to everyone who worked on this project … eternally grateful for getting to play a soldier a war hero in this lifetime. Jai Hind. See you in the cinemas in 2022.”

Kangana was recently bestowed with the award for Best Actress at the recently held National Film Awards. She shared photos with her parents after winning the award on Instagram. The 'Fashion' star wrote, "We all grow up with a deep desire to be worthy of our parents love, care and sacrifices. After all the troubles I give my mummy papa such days seem to make up for all those mischiefs. Thank you for being my mummy papa I wouldn’t want it any other way."

Kangana Ranaut’s Upcoming Films 

On the professional front, the ‘Queen’ star was recently seen in ‘Thalaivii’. The biographical drama based on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa released on September 10. Despite receiving positive reviews, the film couldn’t set the box office on fire due to multiple reasons. 

The Hindi version of ‘Thalaivii’ performed quite well upon its digital release on Netflix. The movie co-starring Arvind Swami was directed by A.L. Vijay. 

Kangana also has ‘Dhaakad’, ‘The Incarnation: Sita’ and ‘Manikarnika Returns’ in her kitty. ‘Dhaakad’ will hit the silver screens on April 8 next year.

The actress is also known for her best friendship with Shah Rukh Khan‘s daughter Suhana Khan, as well as Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya Kapoor. Ananya, Shananya and Suhana have grown up together and often share glimpses of each other on social media. On Ananya’s birthday, Suhana took to Instagram to share a heartwarming note on her birthday.

After Aryan’s bail, Suhana shared a childhood picture with him, along with their dad Shah Rukh Khan. She captioned the black-and-white shots, “i love u.”

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Suhana, who is studying in New York, will fly to Mumbai for Diwali and to meet Aryan. The star-kid was reportedly supposed to arrive in India this month but had to postpone it due to the circumstances around Aryan’s arrest.

On the other hand, Ananya was spotted at a dubbing studio on her birthday. She will be next seen in Liger, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Shakun Batra’s next in her pipeline.

Son of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan released from jail in India

Aryan was detained after the Narcotics Control Bureau raided a ship set to sail from Mumbai to Goa in early October.

Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has been released from a jail in Mumbai after he was arrested during a cruise ship drugs bust in a case that has gripped India.

Aryan, 23, the eldest son of the actor dubbed the “King of Bollywood”, was detained earlier this month along with 19 others after the Narcotics Control Bureau raided a ship set to sail from Mumbai to Goa.

He was given bail on Thursday along with two others by the High Court of Bombay on their fourth attempt. On Saturday, he was released after spending 22 days behind bars.

The case has featured in headlines across India, dominating front pages and receiving non-stop coverage on news channels.

Some have claimed that Aryan, a Muslim, is a victim of religious persecution in a country governed by a Hindu-nationalist party.

Social media has been flooded with messages of support for the family, with many calling the arrest a witch-hunt.

Fans and media gathered outside their residence on Saturday while the family has also received support from several Bollywood A-listers.

The officer investigating the case, Sameer Wankhede, is facing an internal probe within the narcotics bureau and another by Mumbai police over allegations of bribery and extortion related to the case.

The Narcotics Control Bureau has alleged that Aryan is a regular user and supplier of drugs, while it has also said that their investigation revealed an international drug connection and found drug-related WhatsApp chats on his phone.

The high-profile case comes a year after the suicide of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the arrest of his ex-girlfriend, actress Rhea Chakraborty, for allegedly buying him drugs.

Her arrest sparked a wider probe into drug use in Bollywood, with superstar Deepika Padukone and others hauled in for questioning.

Celebrities and cricketers are making news for a shared passion these days. No, not the IPL but something called as NFTs. Starting with Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan from the film industry to Zaheer Khan and Dinesh Karthik among other cricketers, the buzzword all around these days seems to be about NFTs.

But what exactly are these NFTs? And should you invest in them? Let’s find out with a deep dive into the fascinating world of NFTs, arguably the most popular buzzword of 2021.

What Are NFTs?

NFTs are short for non-fungible tokens; these are virtual assets that have no physical or tangible form but can be sold as a piece of property so that only the owner has the original copy of the asset. Let’s break that down a bit.

Fungible means interchangeability – so a fifty-rupee note can be exchanged with another fifty-rupee note without anyone claiming to be the owner of that exact note being exchanged. In fact, fungibility allows fiat currencies issued by central banks as a medium of exchange to trade.

Non-fungible, on the other hand, implies that the tokens or assets in question are not interchangeable. So, any artwork or piece of asset you buy as an NFT will be unique and its original copy will always belong to the owner. Therefore, NFTs can be seen as collectible items in the form of digital assets that cannot be exchanged.

How NFT Ownership Works –

Ethereum leads others when it comes to NFTs. You can buy Ether on a crypto exchange like ZebPay using INR. Ether is the cryptocurrency on the Ethereum Network, which is the blockchain. Remember, the value of cryptocurrency is fungible too, so one Ether owned by you is the same as one Ether owned by your friend.

On the other hand, using the Ethereum blockchain once you create an NFT, which is essentially an unique cryptographic token, you own it and can auction it to the highest bidder. Buying an NFT is as simple as paying up the auction price in cryptocurrency and collecting it as your own unique work of art with your name added to the blockchain to show ownership. A person who has bought an NFT can also sell it to another interested party, although the blockchain platform will always reveal the creator’s name and subsequent owners to maintain its digital history.

NFTs can be any digital asset, from artwork to paintings to motion posters, music pieces, game play, video posts, memes or even your social media posts! Jack Dorsey of Twitter famously sold his first tweet as an NFT for a cool $2.9 million plus in March this year.

How Much Do NFTs Cost?

The world sat up and took notice of NFTs after digital artist Beeple sold his NFT called ‘Everydays’ for a whopping $69 million. Since then, people have bid and sold NFTs of all kinds that have often run into millions of dollars. Memes such as ‘Disaster Girl’ have been sold for $473,000 and ‘Nyan Cat’ was sold for $590,000. Other popular NFTs include ones such as Rick and Morty, Cryptopunks and the original source code of the World Wide Web among others.

The Indian Connect –

NFTs are set to become a buzzword in India too. Actor Amitabh Bachchan has launched his own NFTs, which are themed around his life and also feature verses from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s legendary work Madhushala narrated by the actor on a platform called BeyondLife. Sunny Leone has also become the first Bollywood actress to launch her own NFT collection of unique, hand-animated art. Salman Khan has also announced his entry into NFTs on a platform called BollyCoin.

Cricketers aren’t too far behind. Dinesh Karthik has turned his last-ball six against Bangladesh during the Nidahas T20 series into an NFT. Rishabh Pant has joined Rario, a platform dedicated to licensing cricket memorabilia, to create exclusive digital collectibles of Pant’s iconic cricketing moments.

Actor Vishaal Malhotra, rapper Raftaar and Cricket Foundation, a Singapore-based blockchain platform has also announced its foray into minting cricketing NFTs with backing from players such as V.V.S. Laxman, Parthiv Patel, R.P. Singh, Piyush Chawla, Deep Dasgupta, Pragyan Ojha among others.

With so much happening around NFTs, its safe to assume that the mania around these digital assets has only just begun. Priyanka Chopra Jonas Says She’s Felt Pressure to Meet ‘Unrealistic Beauty Standards’ in the Past

• In an essay for The Telegraph Priyanka Chopra Jonas opened up about the pressure she felt to fit a certain beauty standard.

• The actress said she’s now comfortable in her own skin and is excited to work with brands that celebrate her diversity.

• Chopra Jonas gave a nod to husband, Nick Jonas, for supporting her and keeping her level-headed.

When we see Priyanka Chopra Jonas, we see a stunning woman full of confidence. But the former Miss World and Bollywood actress wasn’t always as carefree and confident as she appears today.

In a recent essay for The Telegraph the 39-year-old revealed that she's felt pressure to conform to “unrealistic beauty standards” in the past, but that she is finally comfortable in her own skin—and breaking free of certain expectations.

“In the past, I always felt pressure to look a certain way,” she wrote in the essay. “I have been raised with unrealistic beauty standards my whole life—we all have. Growing up, I believed everything had to be perfect, skinny or sample sized, and airbrushed.”

But over time, the Quantico star has found beauty in herself and found that her differences are what make her unique. “It has taken me time to come to terms with my natural skin and natural hair texture,” she wrote. “I’m now comfortable in my own skin and I can work with brands that are about individuality and expressing yourself.”

The entrepreneur is walking the talk, too. She recently launched a haircare line called Anomaly Hair Care, available exclusively at Target, which showcases women of all different colors, shapes, sizes, and ages, using products. Additionally, she announced her partnership with Victoria’s Secret earlier this year as an advisor to help implement diversity within the brand.

But this newfound confidence has come over time for the star. “I used to always have my hair blow-dried or have professional make-up before an interview, but these days I do my own. It’s been a revelation,” she wrote in the essay.

Beyond how she sees herself, she’s also worked toward treating her body with the love and respect it deserves. She makes a point not to punish herself if she isn’t able to work out one day or if her meals aren’t perfect.

“I try to eat healthily and work out, but honestly my hours are so crazy,” she wrote. “I travel a lot to different time zones, so I prefer to give my body what it needs, when it needs it, in order to function at my best. I don’t deny my body anything, even at 1 a.m. when I have the night-time munchies.”

She credits her loving husband, Nick Jonas, for the warmth and support she says she needed to balance herself and being her most productive. “My husband, Nick, has definitely helped me get in touch with a new, calmer side of myself,” she wrote.

His relaxed attitude has been exactly what she’s needed to keep her high-energy at an even level, she wrote. “I’m very ambitious, a go-getter, a hustler. I used to have torrential energy. But Nick is the sunshine that calms my storm,” she wrote in the essay. “We balance each other that way.”

“Whenever I’m feeling torrential, I now think about patience and how comes at every situation with a sense of resolution. It’s much more peaceful, rather than feeling agitated,” she wrote.

With her refreshed outlook on life and the world's beauty standards, and the support of her loving (superstar!) husband, Chopra Jonas is spending less time worrying about what others think, and more time focusing on herself and her career.

The Bombay High Court has allowed a bail to Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, at Rs 1 lakh bond, as per the orders issued on Friday.

Khan’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde said, “The order was furnished to the Sessions Special Court. Juhi Chawla has been accepted as surety by the court. Bail formalities are being completed. Once the bonds are signed, they`ll directly go from the court to jail.”

He added, "She (Juhi Chawla) knows him from birth as they are professionally associated."

After the Bombay High Court issued conditions for Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha’s bail, Khan’s legal team started preparing paperwork to make sure he walks out of jail today.

“We have received the order of the High Court. The process in on. Once the judge accepts the surety, then we will proceed with other formalities…all should be done by today evening,” Maneshinde added.

Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night: Bollywood, Arabic, Pakistani stars converge on Meydan in Dubai

It was a celebration of all things Bollywood, Arabic, and Pakistani cinema as top stars such as Kajol, Mohamed Ramadan, Sajal Aly, and Mahira Khan were honoured for their collective talents and contribution at the glittering Filmfare Middle East (FFME) Achievers Night at the Meydan on October 28.

The glittering awards night, which doubled up as song-dance spectacle that would rival a Bollywood musical, also kicked off the entertainment scene in this region which had seen a lull due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Singer Tulsi Kumar, dressed in a glittering gold bustier and matching skirt, got the show, hosted by actor Maniesh Paul, on the road.

“This night is symbolic that art has no boundaries or knows no nationalities. I am looking forward to see all the actors from Bollywood, Pakistan, and Arab cinema come together,” said actor Vivek Oberoi. The red carpet call, which preceded the show, also saw the stars put their best foot forward in terms of fashion.

“I loved the idea of getting ready and pouring myself in a beautiful gown. I chose a golden glittering gown to reflect the mood that we are in,” said actress Mahira Abdel Aziz.

Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Gulf News CEO, Editor in Chief and Executive Director Publications, presented former Miss World Manushi Chhillar the award for Filfmare ME Beauty for Social Good Award for Project Shakti. Chhillar will soon make her film debut with Akshay Kumar in ‘Prithviraj’.

Pakistani actress Sajal Aly, who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Mom’ with late actress Sridevi, also expressed her happiness at attending a glamorous awards night again. Dressed in a nude-coloured glittering skirt and top, she said she was looking forward to celebrating the best of talents from various parts of the globe.

Actress and singer Shruti Haasan, who was honoured with the Filmfare Middle East Art Icon on Thursday, expressed her happiness at being a part of a public event after several months.

“I am super happy that we are doing the awards night at this time at a place like Dubai where everyone is vaccinated and we had to multiple checks to even get in and that gives you a peace of mind. That’s a good thing,” said Haasan. The actress, who channelled her inner goth in her by wearing a black leather gown with metallic detailing, also let us in on her red carpet regimen.

“There’s no substitute to working out every day and it’s not just for fitting into your dress … Exercise makes you feel happier and pumps endorphins … But you need to eat clean till that point too,” said Haasan.

The show saw singer Tulsi Kumar perform to her hit songs like ‘Saki Saki’ and ‘Dus Bahane’. In the first half, actress Celina Jaitly was honoured for her role in her short film ‘Seasons Greetings’. The night also saw veteran actress Poonam Dhillon celebrate her son Anmol Thakeria’s achievement for his breakthrough in ‘Tuesdays & Fridays’, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

It wasn’t just Bollywood cinema that was under the spotlight. Arabic and Pakistani talents such as Egyptian superstar Ramadan and Mahira Khan and Sajal Aly made it a memorable evening. They were all dressed impeccably in fashion-forward outfits and gowns.

Singer Kumar also told Gulf News that she was thrilled to get the ball rolling.

“I am super excited about opening this show. I will be performing to my hit tracks like ‘Saki Saki’ and ‘Nachenge Saari Raat’ and my latest track ‘Tere Naam’. It will be a medley of my hits along with the Sri Lankan viral hit ‘Manike Mage Hithe’. It’s always fun to come to Dubai and perform for this loving audience here,” said Kumar in an interview with Gulf News ahead of her appearance.

Kajol, who has acted in iconic Bollywood movies such as ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Fanaa’, and ‘Kabhie Khushie Kabhie Gham’, was also a major crowd puller. She was given the Filmfare Middle East Powerhouse Performer Over Two Decades trophy.

The Khurranas — Ayushmann Khurrana and Tahira Kashyap — also won big at the FFME Achievers Night. The Bollywood power-couple took home two trophies. While Khurrana — who has acted in blockbusters such as ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Article 15’ — took home the Entertainer Of The Decade trophy, his wife took home the Most Aspiring Filmmaker gong.

During this eventful night replete with celebrities walking the red carpet before the awards function, more than 40 awards were presented to the talents in Bollywood, Pakistani, and Arabic cinema.

Bollywood actress Nafisa Ali, who is known for her performances in 'Life In A... Metro', 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', and several others movies, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa on Friday in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee. Along with Nafisa Ali, Goa-based entrepreneur Mrinalini Deshprabhu also joined the party.

"We are elated to share that Nafisa Ali and Mrinalini Deshprabhu have joined the Goa Trinamool Congress family today in the presence of our Hon'ble Chairperson @MamataOfficial. We wholeheartedly welcome both leaders!," tweeted TMC.

Also, Tennis veteran Leander Paes joined the TMC in presence of Mamata Banerjee today.

Welcoming Paes (48) during a press conference, Banerjee recalled meeting him when the Olympic bronze medal winner was a teenager. "I was the sports minister of the country when I (first) met him," she said. "I have got my younger brother and sweet and cute brother in the TMC," she added.

Paes told reporters that having retired from tennis, he wants to serve the people through the vehicle of politics to make a difference to country.

He said he had met Banerjee when he was 14 and she was the sports minister. "She was very encouraging and supportive. It enabled me as a young boy to embark on this game. "I have travelled the world for the last 30 years playing for the country. I have retired from tennis and would like to get the guidance from the powerful young lady (Banerjee)," he said.

Meanwhile, coming back to Nafisa Ali, the Bollywood actress had unsuccessfully contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from South Kolkata against Mamata Banerjee.

The actress, who won the Femina Miss India title in 1976 and was the second runner-up at the Miss International contest, contested the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow on the Samajwadi Party ticket in 2009. Later in the same, she rejoined the Congress party.

After she joined the TMC, Nafisa Ali took to Facebook and wrote: "After the phenomenal success of Trinamool Congress just now in Bengal, where TMC won with a handsome majority and ensured BJP’s defeat, even though PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah tried everything in their power to defeat her … Mamta Banerjee is spearheading the National movement.

"Now that the Trinamool Congress has taken center stage for Goa in deciding to contest from all 40 seats… I hope the Goa sentiments will support the great tigress that she is. Strengthen Trinamool Congress and give it a voice of the people and by the people," she added.

Call My Agent: Bollywood actor Soni Razdan says process of a casting agent and talent management is good

Soni Razdan, who will play a crucial role in the upcoming show 'Call My Agent: Bollywood,' has appeared in over five projects in the last three years and made her presence felt on-screen. Despite being a fine actress and theatre artiste who in her youth acted in some of the critically acclaimed films like '36 Chowringhee Lane', 'Mandi', and 'Saaransh', to name a few, Soni is getting her due only recently with films like 'Raazi', 'No Fathers in Kashmir', 'War', 'Yours Truely', web series like 'Out Of Love', and 'The Verdict - State vs Nanavati'.

The upcoming show 'Call My Agent: Bollywood' revolves around four talent agents and how they handle the egos and profiles of actors to survive in their talent management company.

Asked if the whole system of casting agents and talent management gives actors like her deserving work, Soni told IANS: "I think getting the opportunity especially for elder actors like us, is quite a two-way process. Casting for certain projects has to arise first and then the casting agent will reach out to an actor like me. Opportunity for an actor happens when a character is written for us, a story is made in the form of film, web series, or any format. So, when we talk about opportunity, it is not just about my acting or casting but finding a script and a platform to exhibit that story too."

"Now see, not all scripts and every story can be exhibited on the big screen but still can have a wider reach. Netflix or any other OTT platforms are those spaces that enable these stories to see the light of the day. Hence actors like us are also getting work," said Soni, the mother of Bollywood star Alia Bhatt.

She further added, "Yes, my casting in all the projects that I have done in recent times has happened through casting agents but opportunity first comes from writing. Having said that, the whole process of a casting agent and talent management is good, it is very systematic and well organised."

Directed by Shaad Ali, 'Call My Agent: Bollywood', the Indian adaptation of a French show, featuring Aahana Kumra, Ayush Mehra, Rajat Kapoor along with cameos of several Bollywood celebrities - Farah Khan, Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha, Lara Dutta, Jackie Shroff, Dia Mirza, releases on October 29 on Netflix.

Conceptualised by W+K Delhi, the #LightUpTheNewBeginings film is directed by Bharat Sikka and features lyrics from a young Indian poet Megha Rao, translated into Hindi by poet Rakesh Tiwari. To amplify the message of this campaign, OPPO has invited   some of the biggest youth icons of India to spread the message of hope, and encourage people to share their own stories as well. Bollywood actress and singer Shraddha Kapoor, Shruti Haasan and musician Darshan Raval, among others, have shared their stories of hope. ‘Light-up New Beginnings’features positive stories that we can relate to.

Malvika Raaj To Make Her lead Bollywood Debut With 'Squad'

Actress Malvika Raaj captured audience's attention when she played the role of young Pooja or Pooh in Karan Johar' 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' and now she is all set to make her Bollywood debut as the leading lady. The actress will be making her debut in 'Squad'.

Raaj will be paired alongside Rinzing Denzonpa, son of veteran actor Danny Denzonpa.

The actress will be seen doing high octane scenes in the film, directed by Nilesh Sahay.

Talking about her her film, Malvika says she is super excited about the story.

"I am really excited for the the film to reach the audience. The film revolves around a little Indian girl, who we rescue and bring back to our country amid all odds,"says the actress.

Revealing the details of her character, she says, "My character in the film is a sniper shooter. All I can say is that my character is very sharp but also a lot of fun! She lives life on the edge and can handle tough situations with a lot of ease.

Talking about her experience, she says, "It was so amazing shooting for this film. Its edgy, thrilling and entertaining all at the same time. We have shot at some great yet challenging locations, which add to the whole look of the film."

The movie will release on November 12 on Zee5.

Young 'Poo' of 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' returns to Bollywood - Times of India

Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' is a film that an entire generation remembers fondly. While the mighty ensemble of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaya Bachchan enthralled the audience with their work, the film's child artistes too are still remembered for their work.
Malvika Raaj, who essayed the character of young 'Pooja' or 'Poo' in the film is all set to make her big debut in an action entertainer after 20 years.

Titled 'Squad', the film will see the young actress performing some high octane action scenes. The film also stars Rinzing Denzongpa, son of veteran actor Danny Denzongpa. Jolie was one of the few global stars to show ‘grief and sympathy‘ for the country’s people during the pandemic, and she also paid tribute to her A Mighty Heart (2007) co-star Irfan Khan after his death.

Despite her desire to visit the nation soon, she says she was pleased to discover a ‘desi’ connection in her upcoming Hollywood picture, Eternals, which has a Bollywood twist and includes Indian actor Harish Patel.
