Kiara’s Fee For Her Next Telugu Film Is So High,...
If salaries are being discussed in an industry that is clearly crippled by a ghastly gender pay gap, then we’re really happy that actresses like Kiara Advani are charging their rightful compensation… no matter how shockingly big that number might seem to the rest of us.
According to a report by the Times of India, it is alleged that the 29-year-old is asking for a staggering INR 4 crores for her upcoming Telugu film with producer Dil Raju. This upswing in remuneration comes after the success of Kabir Singh which released back in 2019.

Kiara’s newest project is with Telugu star Ram Charan
According to sources, the film is going to be Dil Raju’s 50th under his production banner, Sri Venkateswara Creations and, hence, is slated to be big. While Kiara made her Telugu debut with Bharat Ane Nenu opposite superstar Mahesh Babu, she was also seen in Vinaya Vidheya Rama with Ram Charan as her co-star. If the TOI reports are to be believed, Kiara’s charges were only INR 80 lakhs for these projects.

Ever since Kabir Singh’s success, the actress has catapulted into the big leagues. Since Dil Raju’s film is expected to bring together the dhamakedar combination of superstar Ram Charan and director Shankar, the buzz is that the producer is willing to spend big bucks. The movie is expected to release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions. Kiara has signed on for a massive INR 4 crores, although the report does suggest that she had previously demanded INR 5 crores for her time. Filming is expected to start soon and the makers are anticipating a 3-4 month schedule if all goes well.

The gender pay gap in Bollywood
In recent times, the issue of pay divide within the film industry has come to the forefront. Kareena Kapoor Khan was being trolled for asking a sum of INR 12 crores for her portrayal of Sita on screen only a few weeks ago. Many other actresses like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kangana Ranaut and Taapsee Pannu have also given their two cents on the matter.
In an interview with The National Bulletin, Taapsee Pannu said something which shows how much difficulty a woman faces when asking for her worth: “If a female actor asks more, she is termed difficult and problematic and if a man asks more it’s a mark of his success. Difference is, the men who started with me earn 3-5 times more than what I do. And the gap keeps increasing as we go in the higher star category.’’

On Kareena’s rumoured film fees, a source disclosed to Bollywood Hungama, “Bebo, who usually charges in the Rs 6-8 crores range for her films, has quoted a sum of Rs 12 crores which has put the producers in a tizzy. In fact, right now, they are reconsidering their decision and also taking the film to a younger actress, as well. But talks are on and Bebo remains the first choice.”
Compare these actresses' compensation with their contemporary Akshay Kumar. A report last year put his latest fees at INR 135 crores per film. Salman Khan is said to charge INR 50 crores for a movie, with a share in profits also coming his way as he acts as a producer for his movies too. Kareena’s husband, actor Saif Ali Khan is supposed to have tripled his fees to INR 11-12 crores after the success of Tanhaji.
In Kiara’s case as well, demanding a lump sum of a few crores might seem like a gargantuan amount but, when seen in the bigger scheme of things, it’s a step in the right direction.
