In 1980, before the Prince of Wales married Princess Diana, he visited India and by chance met famous Bollywood actress Padmini Kolhapure. During the trip he visited a film studio where the young actress was shooting a movie.
Excited to meet the future monarch, she rushed over to greet him and planted a kiss on his cheek.
However, their meeting, captured on camera, instantly caused furore in the Indian and the UK papers, as at the time Charles was one of the world’s most eligible bachelors.
Kolhapure has since recalled the moment was so publicized that she became recognised as “the person who kissed Prince Charles”.
She said the moment left her “embarrassed”.

When Prince Charles was visiting she was filming Ahista Ahista at Rajkamal Studios.
“He was visiting Mumbai and I don’t know what he thought that he wanted to see a shoot,” she told a leading daily in 2013.
“Shashikalaji did his Indian aarti and I just greeted him with a peck on his cheek.
“But, in those days, it became a big thing.
“I remember I went to London for a holiday and this British immigration officer asked me, ‘Are you the same person who kissed Prince Charles?’ I was left embarrassed.”
