When Imran Khan debuted with Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na back in 2008, we were convinced he’s the dreamy chocolate boy Bollywood was waiting for. He did live up to the expectations by giving us some of the cutest romantic movies from the 2010s. Although he did do a number of unconventional roles like Delhi Belly and Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola, his rom-coms defined romance in the 2010s.
Strangely enough, in 2021, we don’t have anyone who gives off the same high-school crush vibes. Imran’s baby-face got him a lot of fans back in the day, who are still searching for an alternative since our crush decided to retire from the industry.
Since we woke up with Imran fever today, here are his best romantic films that turned us into fans instantly. Which one is your favourite and just how badly do you miss him on-screen?
1. ‘Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na’
His debut film opposite Genelia D’Souza had this inexplicable charm to it. It’s such a simple story of two best friends realizing they love each other--a script that has been used by Bollywood time and again but all 2000s kids know just how invested they were with this movie. The dialogues, the songs, the overall vibe was immaculate. We were all just waiting for our Rats.
2. ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’
Not a lot of people have watched this underrated rom-com but it’s actually quite sweet. It also came at Katrina Kaif’s peak ‘cute’ phase in Bollywood-- bangs, hairbands and all that jazz. The soundtrack of this movie is still a classic, I feel. This film has the capacity to make you smile, we guarantee!
3. ‘I Hate Luv Storys’
This movie starring Sonam Kapoor might have flopped at the box-office but it really reinstated Imran’s ‘loverboy’ image. He’s shown to be madly in love with Simran and does all of those typically cheesy things that build expectations for women worldwide.
4. ‘Break Ke Baad’
One of those alternate ending films, this movie too, did not really work at the box-office but it had a lot of potential. It stars Deepika Padukone as the lead and follows the story of childhood lovers, Abhay and Aaliya.
5. ‘Katti Batti’
Starring Kangana Ranaut as Payal, Katti Batti is a love story that has a very tragic ending. However, it’s high on the romance factor and you’ll eventually fall in love with Madhav ‘Maddy’ Kabra.
6. ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’
A loose adaptation of Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher’s What Happens In Vegas, this film stars Kareena Kapoor as Riana Braganza alongside Imran’s Rahul Kapoor. It’s an entertaining one-time watch for sure!
7. ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’
A complicated love story featuring Kareena, Shraddha Kapoor and Imran, this love story also looks at class divide and privilege.
