Vikram Gokhale comes out in support of Kangana Ranaut’s 'bheek' remark: 'I agree with her, we were given freedom' | Hindi Movie News - Bollywood - T...

Kangana Ranuat has been on the receiving end of criticism in the wake of her controversial comments on India's Independence. Politicians including Nawab Malik, BJP MP Varun Gandhi, Congress leader Anand Sharma, DCW chief Swati Maliwal, singer-composer Vishal Dadlani and many others have strongly condemned Ranaut's statement that 'India got 'bheek' in 1947 and the real freedom came in 2014'. But, now veteran actor Vikram Gokhale has come out in support of Bollywood's firebrand actress Kangana Ranaut. Speaking at an event Vikram Gokhale said that he agrees with Kangana's recent remarks on India's independence. He further added, 'I agree with Ranaut's statement. We were given freedom. Many people were just mute spectators when freedom fighters were hanged. These mute spectators included many senior leaders. They didn't save the freedom fighters who were fighting against the British.' The 'Thalaivi' actor is in the eye of a storm and is being criticised from several quarters for her comments. A while ago Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal urged President Ram Nath Kovind to withdraw her Padma Shri, claiming that 'her behavior is no way befitting of the recipient of the highest award in the country'. Not only this but she also sought registration of FIR against the actress on sedition charges. Maharashtra cabinet minister Nawab Malik had also slammed Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for her recent comments. Malik thinks that Kangana through her statement has 'insulted freedom fighters and the Centre must take back the Padma Shri from her,' BJP's Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi also expressed his displeasure through his Twitter handle and penned a note questioning Kangana's statement saying, 'Should I call this thinking madness or treason?' Music composer Vishal Dadlani has also reacted to her statement. Taking to his Instagram handle, he shared his selfie and said, 'Remind her of Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh, of Sukhdev, of Rajguru, of Ashfaqullah, and all the many thousands of others who refused to bow, refused to beg. Remind her politely, but strongly, so she never again dares to forget.' Meanwhile, despite massive criticism, Kangana Ranaut is still firm on her statement and also said that she would return her Padma Shri and apologise if anyone could prove her wrong.
