Neha Dhupia Shares A Glimpse Of Her Baby Boy As She Expresses Her Freedom To Breastfeed Her Child

Bollywood actress, Neha Dhupia is riding high on both the professional and personal fronts. After embracing motherhood in 2018 and welcoming her daughter, Mehr Dhupia Bedi, she has taken on her journey of motherhood for the second time with the arrival of her baby boy. While the actress is enjoying one of the best phases of her life, it is her husband, Angad Bedi, who is supporting her in every way possible.

Till date, many actresses have opened up about their pregnancy journey, postpartum depression and about gaining weight after pregnancy. Not just that, with time, they have also tried to break the stereotype that feeding mothers cannot breastfeed their child in the open. Another actress, who has been a veteran in this movement is Neha Dhupia, who made a bold move of smashing the shackles of prevalent stares that a woman has to endure if she wants to breastfeed her baby in the open.

A few moments back, Neha Dhupia took to her Instagram handle to drop a picture of her breastfeeding her newborn son. As the actress and her actor-husband, Angad Bedi have not yet disclosed his face, Neha hid the face of her baby boy with her hands. Along with the picture, the doting mom wrote, ''#freedomtofeed.'' Check it out below:

For those who don't know, Neha Dhupia had started the initiative, #FreedomToFeed during the International Breastfeeding Week 2019, wherein she had revealed her motherhood stories and breastfeeding journey with her daughter, Mehr. Taking to her IG handle, Neha had shared an adorable video with her daughter and had captioned it as:

“#freedomtofeed - an initiative by Neha Dhupia Let’s start a conversation... as mothers we need #freedomtofeed ... #internationalbreastfeedingweek ... @freedomtofeed #ItsNotAnAd.”

In 2021, during the International Breastfeeding Week, Neha Dhupia had interacted with new moms and had normalised breastfeeding in the open. In a conversation with the Hindustan Times, Neha had shared how happy she was to have started the conversation on breastfeeding two years ago. She had told the publication:

“Just by having this conversations, I feel so much more empowered now. I know I’ll get on that journey and even try my best to be on that journey again, and be treated with the most normal manner with my real experiences. I’m glad I started that conversation two years ago because I feel that the second time around, it’ll be even better for me.”

Going further in the interview, Neha had stated the reason as to why it was important to normalise breastfeeding for new mothers. She had also shared her experience after her daughter, Mehr’s birth, and had said:

“I heard a very lovely saying around the time I gave birth to Mehr — 'Everybody looks after the baby but who looks after the mother?’. We’ve to look for nooks and crannies to breastfeed our child. I remember once I had to go inside a toilet of an aircraft because I didn’t want to get other people uncomfortable as I could sense that they were getting uncomfortable.”

Dubai: The world of Bollywood and Arab cinema will collide spectacularly at the ‘Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night’ at the Meydan in Dubai on October 28 as this region’s biggest pop idol Mohamed Ramadan busts a few dance moves with Indian actress Urvashi Rautela.

“We are going to be performing to our latest hit ‘Versace Baby’ tomorrow . It’s going to be a memorable and special night where Arab music and Bollywood dance meet. We are so excited,” said Ramadan in an exclusive interview with Gulf News.

Rautela describes their blockbuster music single ‘Versace Baby’, shot extensively in Dubai, as a “beautiful collaboration between an Arab idol and an Indian actress”.

Earlier, at a press meet, singers such as Amaal Malik, Kanika Kapoor, Tulsi Kumar and legendary actors Zeenat Aman and Gulshan Grover expressed their excitement at being a part of a glittering awards presentation ceremony replete with a red-carpet call.

Sold-out event

Actors Kajol, Nora Fatehi, Sunny Leone, and Nivin Pauly are expected to attend the big night that kicks off at 8pm. It’s a sold-out event, pointed out Rizwan Sajan, the man behind the awards night.

All talents also felt that this awards ceremony is particularly significant for all the artists because it’s the first event of this scale to take place in the UAE after the global pandemic.

“This is probably the first time that we are performing this year. This year is so special because it’s first stage performance. We are extremely nervous and excited,” said Kapoor, breaking out into her hit Bollywood song ‘Chittiyaan Kalayiyaan’ as a teaser to what lay ahead.

Legendary actress Zeenat Aman, who is likely to be celebrated for her body of sturdy work in Indian cinema tomorrow, turned nostalgic as she looked back at her career milestones.

“50 years ago, I received a Filmfare Award and now 50 years later I am back here receiving the Filmfare Middle East honour… This means a lot to me. Thank you so much. Films are such a collaborative medium, and this event indicates the coming together of people and talents,” said Aman at the press conference.

Singer Tulsi Kumar also told Gulf News that it’s her career’s first opening act for Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night, a night meant to celebrate and honour talents from Bollywood, Arab cinema, and Pakistani entertainment scene.

“I have practiced, practiced, practiced a lot for this. It’s such a big honour to perform again. I have missed performing and hearing my fans cheer me,” said Kumar.

Actress Shruti Haasan also spoke about being red-carpet ready for tomorrow’s big night.

“I am planning to wear a leather outfit and am aiming for a goth look,” said Haasan.

Bollywood actress Sunny Leone is red carpet ready for Dubai, but no crash diets for her

Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, who’s all set for the red carpet at Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night on October 28 at Meydan Hotel, isn’t a fan of extreme diets or embarking on a punishing fitness regime before an event that invites scrutiny.

“I don’t believe in crash diets. Fitness is an everyday activity. Nothing can happen overnight, so why try? I eat my regular meals and sleep well, unless the kids decide to give me a hard time. But they have been less naughty off late,” said Leone in an exclusive e-mail interview with Gulf News.

Leone, who believes that confidence is a great accessory on the red carpet, joins an army of talents including Kajol, Nora Fatehi, Mahira Khan, Mohamed Ramadan, and Zeenat Aman on Thursday night as part of a celebration meant to honour the best in Bollywood, Arab cinema, Pakistani films and beyond.

The former adult film star and proud of mother of three young children — Nisha, Noah and Asher — made her Bollywood film debut with ‘Jism 2’ in 2012 is undoubtedly the queen of re-invention. Her career has seen several transformations including starring in her own biographical web series titled ‘Karenjit Kaur - The Untold Story of Sunny Leone’ and launching her own make-up brand StarStruck. She’s currently working on an action-centric role for director Vikram Bhatt’s web series ‘Anamika’.

Now, Leone — born Karenjit Kaur to a Sikh family in Canada — is set to light up the FFME Achievers Night stage with a song and dance spectacle.

Excerpts from our interview as we talk about body positivity, her precious Filmfare Awards memory, the COVID-19 pandemic and more ...

What are your thoughts on attending a star-studded event post the COVID-19 pandemic? This event is significant because it’s the first of its kind in Dubai since COVID-19 hit us all.

I am super excited to be out at an event again. A large part of an actor’s life includes making these appearances. I won’t lie, I had missed these quite a lot. The whole getting ready, choosing an outfit, and make up is a pretty fun routine.

What’s your biggest Filmfare Awards night memory over the years?

The first time I attended the awards is my most favourite memory. I love performing at those events and attending them too.

There’s a strong dialogue now on body positivity among celebrities so that they normalise all body shapes. What are your thoughts on celebrities embracing their perceived flaws in public now?

I believe as women we are always subjected to harsh criticism and we are expected to adhere to a set idea of beauty. Body positivity needs a hard push from women who are in the social arena. We have the voice to make that difference. I have always been proud of my size. I even make jokes about being a hairy Punjabi teenager. I have never tried being a smaller size. I work out and I try to be as fit as possible. Size inclusivity as a dialogue has come a long way and I want more people to join in this conversation.

How has the pandemic treated you and what has been your biggest learning during this time?

My biggest learning is to be grateful. I was with my family, surrounded by so much warmth and love. Every day we would hear stories of people suffering and I would just look at my husband and kids and say a prayer. I know today, more than ever before, that nothing else matters.

How has it been as a working actress and a mother? Can women have it all?

To be a working woman and a mother are interlinked, everything goes hand in hand and schedules are made accordingly. Daniel and I have always created a set up at home where the kids know that mom and dad are working parents and that they both run the household. Women can have it all, of course. There are more and more women who are great examples of it. I draw my inspiration from every woman I have met on my film set who wake up early, help the kids, do kitchen chores and report to work. If they can do it with such little help, I don’t see why can’t I?

Tell us more about your future projects and what kind of offers are now coming your way since your Bollywood debut ‘Jism 2’?

‘Jism 2’ was the start of a roller-coaster ride. For a long time I was put in a box, but with the space having drastically changed, I feel the quality of offers has altered. I am doing an action film and an action series so that really says a lot about how I am perceived now. With a fresh wave of content, I believe, people are casting against the norm which has benefitted me hugely. I love to be in front of the camera and it would be a lot more enjoyable if I did different things. There is ‘Anamika’, ‘Oh My Ghost’ and ‘Sheero’.

With the advent of web streaming platforms, do you think there’s greater scope for actors to perform in stronger roles?

Absolutely. OTT by nature allows an actor to go deep into the psyche of the character. It’s episodic so you delve more into the person’s life, their back story and their motivations. I feel I have benefitted a lot from the first series I did, which was biographical. While I was playing a slightly fictionalised version of myself, people did realise that I am capable of bringing a certain range. I have shot for another series with Vikram Bhatt called ‘Anamika’. Every day it was a huge learning for me.

What’s your take on gender wage parity among male and female colleagues in the entertainment industry at large?

I have been fortunate enough not to face these issues and the makers have always obliged to pay my fees. Every artist faces their own situation, but I feel everyone should know their worth.

You are an enterprising artist and you have diversified your brand not just as an actor but as a make-up maven and more. What next are we looking at?

The sky is my limit. There’s a lot happening which we will announce soon. Beside my make-up line , there is IAmanimal, a clothing line that will be launched soon.

What’s the most useless skill that you have acquired during lock down (mine is that I can squat and brush my teeth)?

I have gotten really good at playing several annoying app games on my phone.

What is the latest series that you found binge-worthy this COVID-19?

I was watching a Dutch drama series called ‘UnderCover’.

What is Filmfare Middle East Achievers Night?

All guests must wear masks and proof of vaccination is mandatory.

How do you attend the awards and what’s the easiest way to get there?

Tickets start from Dh157 and can be purchased at Platinumlist. There are several ticketing options based on your budget, with the Star Enclosure tickets being pegged at a steep price.

At what time does the event start and how long will it last?

It’s best to reach there by 7pm. If you are driving to Meydan Hotel, factor in the time you will take to reach the venue and find parking. Alternatively, taking public transport like a taxi to the venue is also an idea. Be warned, Bollywood ceremonies can run for several hours at a stretch. Wearing comfortable shoes and dressing up to the nines but with comfort in mind would be helpful.

A look at the on-set Bollywood accidents

The death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injury to director Joel D Souza in a freak accident when a prop gun went off in veteran actor Alec Baldwin’s hands has left the world in shock. But did you know that accidents on the sets of Bollywood movies are commonplace?

While actors often get injured when doing action or other sequences, there have been many deaths on the sets of stuntmen and other workers, which go unnoticed at times.

 

During the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002-film Devdas, two workers were accidentally sucked into the storm fan. Shooting was again thrown out of gear, when one person’s face was totally disfigured and another received such a severe blow on his head that he lost his mental equilibrium. Death struck again on the sets of the film when a light-man working on the sets of the film at Filmistan, Goregaon, fell and died instantly. Producer–director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to bear all the expenses as the duo was not registered under the Movie Action Dummy Effects Association (MADEA).

 

Then, Shah Rukh Khan was shooting a scene for the film, when a window he was seated at fell on his hand, causing blood to ooze out. Later, when he was shooting for another scene, in which he was to play like he was in a state of drunken stupor, he ended up breaking the glass in his hands. The glass went right through the palms of his hand, and there was blood gushing all over once again.

Real-life accidents on the sets

Ravi Dewan, the action–director of films like the 1984-film Mashaal, 1990-film The Sword of Tipu Sultan and the 2013-film Jodha Akbar, says that accidents are a part of the job, something he suffered too. “These are human errors, just as one of those that happened to me at the shoot of Anil Kapoor and Vijay Shanti’s 1992-film Apradhi. A knife placed on a bazooka misfired by the man operating it, and the knife went into my stomach. I was saved after much effort. But it was an accident. You cannot stop it,” he adds matter-of-factly.

 

Filmmaker Sabbir Khan, who has worked with the likes of Sylvester Stallone in the 2009-film Kambakkht Ishq, says that it’s important to have a safety-director. “We have to take care of the safety of everyone on set,” he reasons. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, however, opines that filmmakers should not try to save money all the time. “Safety precautions need to be taken on many sets. It is being done on some shoots, but others really are trying to save money,” he adds.

And Dewan agrees. “Indeed. Filmmakers try to save money and they don’t listen to Indian stunt masters. They’ll listen to a foreigner and spend money not only on them but also on everything they ask for,” he says. That being said, even Dewan doesn’t think a safety director would really make much of a difference if it’s an accident.

 

“I remember I’d told a Hollywood guy Scott not to mount a camera on a raft when we were abroad shooting for the 2003-Suneil Shetty and Aishwarya Rai-film Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke. But he didn’t listen to me and the camera fell down and was never found again! That is where you need safety directors to come and insist on how it has to be done. No one listened to me because I was Indian,” protests Dewan.

Errors earlier

During the shoot of Indian 2 last year, three technicians died when a massive crane crashed, even as actor Kamal Haasan, Kajal Aggarwal and director Shanmugam Shankar escaped.

 

On the sets of Khakee in 2004, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fractured her foot after she was hit by a jeep, which was to stop just away from her. She was seriously hurt after being thrown in the bushes.

In 2013, during the filming of Shootout at Wadala, Anil Kapoor fired a blank bullet at John Abraham from 4.9 feet away instead of the previously planned 15 feet, and John got hurt in his neck.

No one can forget Amitabh Bachchan’s near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie, which happened in 1983 in Mysore.

Sunil Dutt saved Nargis when a fire broke out on the set of their film, Mother India in 1960. Dutt was seriously burnt.

 

In one of the biggest tragedies on sets, actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan was hospitalised and had to undergo multiple surgeries for a year after a massive fire erupted on the sets of The Sword of Tipu Sultan in 1989 in Mysore, killing 62 people.

During the filming of Mani Rathnam’s 2004-film Yuva, Vivek Oberoi also got injured when his bike skidded on a bridge they were shooting on. He fractured his leg and had a death threatening blood clot, which was finally brought under control.

Mahima Chaudhary’s career as an actress was as good as over when a piece of glass crashed on her face on the sets of the 1999-film Dil Kya Kare and only producer Ajay Devgn supported her even as director Prakash Jha insisted that she continue her shoot

She said, “Most certainly. Those days we used to sit with the crowd. With the crowd in Bengal, I never feel threatened. I still feel Calcutta is my place and I think people like me there.
