South Indian actress Amala Paul receives UAE golden visa honour

South Indian actress and producer Amala Paul, who has acted in a string of successful Tamil and Malayalam films, is the latest celebrity to be bestowed the UAE golden visa honour.

“They say go for Gold, and for gold I went! Received UAE’s Golden Visa today. Feeling absolutely fantastic. Thank you to everyone that made this happen,” wrote Paul.

With this, she joins an illustrious plank of actors who have been granted the UAE golden visa. Earlier, actors including Tovino Thomas, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Prithviraj and John Abraham have all been given a nod by the region for their cultural prowess.

The UAE golden visa holders are granted 10-year residency and actors like Prithviraj has spoken about how this will bring in more Malayalam films to this region.

Paul has acted in several blockbusters including ‘Aadai’, a tale of a young woman who gets trapped in a room after an office party goes horribly wrong.

“In movies, we mostly see girls with maximum two shades: either she’s cute, girl-next-door who’s occasionally bold or she’s a ‘billi’ , an angry vamp. These are the stereotypes. But when Kamini’s role [in ‘Aadai’ came to me, I realised she had several shades of grey. She was human and wasn’t trying to be perfect or trying to please everyone. Everything about ‘Aadai’ was original,” Paul said in an earlier interview.

Paul is also a popular name in the Malayalam film industry. Her coming-of-age drama ‘Oru Indian Pranayakatha’, has immense repeat value.

The picture featured Patani posing in the backdrop of the setting sun while donning a halter-neck bikini top that came in red base and sported black and brown prints all over.

Now, that SLB has wrapped working on the Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, reports state that he has immersed himself in Heera Mandi. Interestingly, continuing with the cast, we have learnt that Bhansali has since approached the super-iconic yesteryears’ actress Mumtaz.

Unfortunately, the yesteryears’ heart-throb of millions, has said no to the offer from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “A huge fan of the iconic actress, who regaled us in many blockbusters in the 1960 and 1970s, SLB had approached her, but she is in no mood for a comeback. She has said no to an offer to play a prominent part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s lavish costume drama Heera Mandi for Netflix”, says a source in the know.

Further talking about the role that Mumtaz was offered, the source adds that it was a pivotal role which required the screen legend to perform an elaborate Mujra. But Mumtaz declined saying her husband would not like her dancing at her age.

As for Heera Mandi, the show that is exclusively being developed for Netflix will have 7 episodes of one hour each in the first season, to be followed by a second season in 2022. The first episode is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. He may also direct the second episode, while the closing episode will also be directed by Bhansali. The rest of the episodes will be directed by Vibhu Puri who was an assistant to Bhansali.

Shilpa Shetty was clicked at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday, December 29, with her kids, Viaan and Samisha. The Hungama 2 actress returned from her Holiday in the north. Shilpa and her family had jetted off to Mussoorie for a short vacation. Ahead of the New Year, the actress and her family returned to the city. At the airport, Shetty and her family were clicked by the paparazzi stationed there. Later, this is what Shilpa Shetty said next when the paps asked her son Viaan to take off his mask.

A video shared by a paparazzo on Instagram shows Shilpa walking towards her car with her kids. The paps asked the actress to slide her mask down for pictures. Shetty did so too and obliged for photos.

Moving on, Shilpa went on to wave at the paps and walked ahead. She said, “Bas bas (That’s all),” and walked ahead. Later, the paps asked Viaan to take off his mask for a photo. They addressed the star kid as ‘Baba’ and asked him to pose for a photo. At that moment, Shetty said that Viaan will not take off his mask. She told the paps, “Woh nahi utarega (He won’t take off the mask).”

However, Viaan Shetty slid his mask down a bit. He flashed a smile for the cameras and put his mask back on.

The newlyweds tied the knot on December 9 and shifted to their newly bought house in Mumbai. Katrina and Vicky are the neighbors of celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli. According to a report in India Today, they purchased a swanky Apartment in Rajmahal apartments, Juhu. It was on Christmas 2021 that the couple gave a peek into their new home. Arjun Kapoor

The Bhoot Police bought a four-bedroom-sky villa in Bandra, close to the residence of his ladylove, Malaika Arora. As per a Bollywood Hungama report, Arjun owns a sea-facing property at the 26 storey-tall 81 Aureate and has paid Rs 20 to Rs 23 crore.

Jacqueline Fernandez

The Kick 2 actress shifted to her new home, an apartment previously owned by Priyanka Chopra. Jacqueline bought the condo at Rs 7 crore. Earlier, she had rented the apartment and was living in the five-bedroom property since 2016. According to an ETimes report, Fernandez has finalized a bungalow property reportedly worth Rs 175 crore.

Janhvi Kapoor

The Roohi actress bought a new home in Juhu in the Arya building. Her apartment is apparently on the 14th, 15th and 16th floors and the property is worth Rs 39 crores. Reportedly, Janhvi applied for a Rs 23 crores home loan and has paid stamp duty of about Rs 78 lakhs.

Sonakshi Sinha

Indian Actress Alia Bhatt Named PETA's 2021 Person of the Year

MUMBAI – Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has been named PETA's 2021 Person of the Year for her work in support of an animal-friendly fashion industry.

The actress had recently invested in Phool, the company behind Fleather, which makes vegan leather out of discarded temple flowers. In addition, her vegan kidswear line, Ed-a-Mamma, also won a 2021 PETA India fashion award for helping to nurture kids' love for animals and nature.

Alia is known to advocate support for cats and dogs and often uses her voice to call for stronger animal protection laws. The actress has also starred in a pro-adoption People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India campaign to help felines and canines.

PETA’s India director of Celebrity and Public Relations, Sachin Bangera, said, "Alia Bhatt is not only helping to advance vegan fashion but also encouraging the next generation to be kind to animals."

He added, "Alia doesn't hesitate to speak up, whether she's rallying her fans to adopt a dog or cat or calling for action on crimes against animals."

This comment divided people and Kangana received flak from people who believed in India’s freedom movement. Before this, the actress’ Twitter handle was also permanently taken down for violation of policies.

Alleged rape case against actor Pearl V Puri

In June, TV actor Pearl V Puri was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and molestation case. Reportedly, the incident had taken place in 2019 on the sets of the TV show, Bepanah Pyaar. Television actor Karan Mehra, who’s known for playing Naitik in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlaata Hai, was arrested following a complaint by his wife, actress Nisha Rawal, over a domestic fight. He was accused by his wife of having an affair, taking her jewellery and allegedly beating her up. Later, Karan was granted bail and a series of accusations and rebuttals followed on behalf of both parties.

Indian Idol 12 controversy

Reality shows came under fire earlier this year after legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s son and singer Amit Kumar made shocking revelations about Indian Idol 12, in which he was a guest judge during one of the episodes. Amit said that he was paid for his appearance on the show and asked by the makers to praise every contestant irrespective of how they performed.

Sabyasachi’s Mangalsutra campaign

A controversial advertisement for designer Sabyasachi’s jewelry brand portrayed a woman wearing a low-neckline dress with a ‘mangalsutra’. Sabyasachi decided to take down the ad after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra issued a 24-hour ultimatum asking them to withdraw the advertisement which has an “objectionable and obscene” portrayal of mangalsutra, a customary item of Hindu marriage, or else face statutory action.

Recently in a tete-a-tete with ETmes, Vinod's wife Kiran opened up about her husband's past relationships including with Rekha.

She told the tabloid, "Let me tell you- the person who remained in his life till his end is Rekha. She was like a family member and I still look up to her as a friend. Rekha is a wonderful person, very loving and forgiving. She even attended our marriage. If I meet her today, I will give her the tightest hug. I know her mother and sisters. I am not comparing myself to someone who's so high up there- but actually, Rekha and I are very similar."

My dad who was then settled in Kenya decided to come down and take me to Kenya (so that the love story ends and the shaadi does not happen). Vinod spoke to him and he told him that he was taking my sister and me for a few days to North India, but he had actually booked tickets from Delhi to Kenya!"

She continued, "Another meeting happened between Vinod and my father in Delhi. I called Vinod and told him that dad was taking me away. Vinod flew down to Delhi. I don't know the details of that meeting but the very next week, we were married."

Two years post their marriage, Mehra passed due to a cardiac arrest on October 30, 1990. Speaking about her final moments with him, she shared, "The doctors were entering our house and he breathed his last. He passed away in my lap. He was holding me when he took his last breath. The pain was too much. They tried to revive him but couldn't."

Vinod Mehra was known for films like Ghar, Amar Deep, The Burning Train, Nagin, Khud-daar amongst others.

Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi, who hails from Morocco, idolises Colombian singer Shakira but she isn’t too pleased about being compared to her in her latest music video ‘Dance Meri Rani’.

“But that’s our moves ... That’s an African girls moves, that’s Africa, my culture. It would be nice if you are reminded of the African girls who are dancing so well on social media these days ... We represented Afro dance and it’s not specific to Shakira,” said Fatehi in an interview with Gulf News.

In the fantastical video set on an island, there’s Fatehi with ash blonde curly hair playing a mermaid. She transforms into a lithe dancer when singer Guru Randhawa chances upon her. Her vigorous dance moves, with exaggerated hip movements, has prompted several social media users to compare the two talents.

“Shakira is my icon and role model. But I think we should really speak the truth that Afro moves comes from Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana ... They are coming up with brilliant moves these days and I wanted to incorporate that into the music video ... It’s the best cross-cultural mix to happen,” said Fatehi.

The North African talent wanted the choreography to be a nod to her roots.

“The Africa in me has always wanted to celebrate Afro beauty and dance styles ... This was my chance to do that,” said Fatehi, who finds comparisons to Shakira unfair.

Fatehi’s latest video, which clocked 20 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release, continues to rack up views.

“I am glad our hard work is being appreciated,” said Fatehi.

The singer of ‘Dance Meri Rani’, Guru Randhawa, has also promised to sing this song for his New Year’s Eve concert in Ras Al Khaimah this December 31.

‘Madhuban’ Song: Bollywood Actress Sunny Leone’s Effigy Trampled By Right Wing Mob In Uttar Pradesh

Two Hindu right wing outfits tried to burn an effigy of Bollywood actress Sunny Leone here accusing her of “indecent dance” and hurting their religious sentiments in a music video, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday when the activists belonging to the two bodies tried to burn the actor’s effigy objecting over song “Madhuban”.

The song shares a few words of its lyrics with the iconic 'Madhuban mein Radhika naache re' song from 1960 film ‘Kohinoor’.

The activists belonging to ‘Srikrishna Sena Sangathan’ and ‘Yuva Brahmin Mahasabha’ were stopped in the act with assurance of an FIR in the matter, a police officer said.

“Surveillance cell has been requested to stop obscene dance scene in the song,” Vrindavan SHO Ajai Kaushal said.

No FIR was lodged in the matter till late Sunday evening.

During their protest, when the activists could not burn the effigy, they crushed it under their feet.

“On the assurance of action against the actor and producers, the plan of burning the effigy was withdrawn,” Sanjiv Singh Baba, national president, Srikrishna Sena Sangathan said.

Last week, a section of priests in Vridavan too had expressed objection over the video.

Akhil Bhartiya Tirth Purohit Mahasabha of Vrindavan has now extended its demand and has sought action against people behind the video produced by music label Saregama.

The producer, director, and financer should also be booked for the "offense", Mahesh Pathak, the body’s national president said.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra too demanded an apology from Leone and the song’s singers Shaarib and Toshi threatening them with "action".

The minister alleged that the video hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.

Earlier in the day, Saregama issued a statement saying it will change the lyrics of the song within three days.

"The new song will replace the old one across all platforms over the next 3 days," the label, which had released the song on its YouTube channel on December 22, said.

It's a merry Christmas for Katrina Kaif. The actress, who got married earlier this month to Vicky Kaushal in Rajasthan, announced on Christmas Day that she is back in action.

“New Beginnings 💛,” she said on her Instagram page. “BACK ON SET 🎥 with director #sriramraghavan for Merry Christmas! 🎄. I’ve always wanted to work with Sriram Sir, He is a master when it comes to narratives that showcase thrillers and it's an honor to be directed by him. . Super excited to be teaming up with @actorvijaysethupathi for this one produced by @rameshtaurani & @sanjayroutraymatchbox.”

After returning to Mumbai from Rajasthan, Katrina and Vicky moved to their new home in Juhu. She had shared a picture of the new, sea-facing home near the popular beach.

Katrina will now be busy with the shooting of Merry Christmas, which will also feature Vijay Sethupathi, the Tamil actor, who has starred in over 50 films. The film is being directed by Sriram Raghavan.

The action-packed spy series will go on the floors in 2022. The actor will undergo intense training for the action-drama before they start shooting for the same.”

Sources added, “It’s neither a remake nor an adaptation. Given that the espionage genre has a universal reach, the makers have decided on a spin-off to Citadel in India. The idea is to set the premise against the backdrop of Indian characters and take it to a global level.”

The shoot begins sometime next year and Varun Dhawan and Samantha will be playing stylish spies in this Raj and DK series.

Mumbai (AFP) – Bollywood's retelling of the 1983 World Cup hits cinemas Friday, recalling a stunning underdog victory that was instrumental in turning India into the cricket-crazy nation it is today.

Captained by Kapil Dev, seen now as one of cricket's best ever players, India began the tournament in England as rank outsiders but ended up triumphing over the all-conquering West Indies in the final at a raucous Lord's.

The victory "was the turning point of how we saw ourselves as a cricketing nation, and... that incredible win fed into the veins of a country that till then had seen itself as also-rans on and off the cricket field," the Indian Express daily said ahead of the release of "83".

"The next morning, banner headlines screamed 'The Cup Is Ours', and nothing was ever the same. It was a blood rush to beat all blood rushes," the paper said.

The first sign that India meant business was in the group stage of the tournament when Dev made 175 not out -- with India having been on the ropes at 17 for 5 -- against Zimbabwe.

A BBC strike on the day meant it was not filmed but hallowed cricketing almanac Wisden called it "one of the most spectacular innings played in this form of cricket".

'No expectations'

An easy semi-final victory over a fancied England side -- featuring greats like Ian Botham, David Gower and Bob Willis -- then set up the grand final against the West Indies, the defending champions.

The West Indies had fearsome fast bowlers Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall and Michael Holding -- plus batting battleship Viv Richards.

But India cruised to victory, causing pandemonium in the Lord's stands and back home.

Dev is played in "83" by Ranveer Singh, the Bollywood superstar honed his own cricket skills four hours a day for six months to play the role.

In an interview with AFP, Dev said India were helped by being underdogs.

"There were no expectations. All the media's attention was on Australia, England, West Indies, and all the pressure was on the other teams," the 62-year-old said.

"There was no pressure on us, so we were enjoying ourselves... I think half way through we all started believing we are good enough to win the World Cup, and that’s when the change took place."

'Never the same again'

Veteran journalist Ayaz Memon, who covered the tournament, said that cricket was already popular and that India had won a Test series in England in 1971 for the first time.

"But it was the sheer unexpectedness of the triumph. Who had thought that India would beat the world champions? It triggered so much passion and so much interest in the game in India that it was never the same again," Memon told AFP.

The victory also revealed the commercial opportunities of cricket in India, paving the way for the money-spinning spectacle it is now.

This was also driven by the opening up of the economy and the advent of cable television in the 1990s.

"It (the win) completely transformed the future not just of Indian cricket but also cricket as a sport internationally. After that India became in a sense the epicentre of the cricketing world," Memon said.

Kabir Khan, who directed the new movie -- heavy on the drama, with the obligatory dash of song -- admits taking some "creative liberties" but advice from some of the original players kept him broadly true to what happened.

"I had the ultimate luxury of making a film on a historic event where the players are still around to tell me how it happened," Khan told AFP.

The three-year-long romance between Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen and her model-boyfriend Rohman Shawl has ended.

The actress took to Instagram to confirm the rumours on Thursday.

Alongside an adorable picture with Shawl, the 46-year-old star said that the duo will continue to remain friends.

The 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya' actress revealed that their relationship was long over, but they still love each other. "We began as friends, we remain friends," she wrote.

She used various hashtags - #NoMoreSpeculations #LiveAndLetLive #CherishedMemories #Love and #Friendship - in her social media post on Instagram.

For some time, the media had been speculating that the couple had ended their relationship after dating for about three years. The frequency of their adorable posts on social media had also reduced drastically.

Shawl also shared Sen's post on his Instagram page.

The former Miss Universe, who is a single parent, shared another post on Insta after the big reveal. It read, "Peace is beautiful!"

Sen adopted her first child in 2000 and second daughter in 2010. She named them Renee (24) and Alisah (12).

On the work front, the actress has received a lot of appreciation for the sequel to her web series 'Aarya'. The Emmy-nominated series marks Sen's return to mainstream acting after a decade.

Director Ram Madhvani's crime-thriller, which can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar, is an official adaptation of the Dutch drama 'Penoza' by Pieter Bart Korthuis.

The actress is best known for movies such as 'Biwi No 1', 'Aankhen', 'Filhaal', 'Samay' and 'Main Hoon Na'.

Koffee Shots with Karan: Dhanush says Raanjhanaa actress Sonam Kapoor was a better co-star than Atrangi Re star Sara Ali Khan : Bollywood News - Bolly...

In Atrangi Re, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan have shared screen-space for the very first time. It’s also been a while since Dhanush did a Hindi project and collaborated with Aanand L Rai again after Raanjhanaa. As promotions are on in full swing, the two stars arrived on the sets of Koffee Shots with Karan ahead of film’s release on Disney+ Hotstar.

In a Koffee Shots With Karan rapid-fire round, the actor was challenged to choose between his first Bollywood co-star Sonam Kapoor and his most recent co-star Sara Ali Khan. Sonam was chosen without hesitation by the actor.  The actors previously collaborated for Dhanush's Bollywood debut, Raanjhanaa which was directed by Aanand L Rai in 2013 and became one of the biggest hits.

In the rapid-fire round, Dhanush chose Sonam over Sara to which the Atrangi Re actress responded, “Wow, not offensive at all.” She continued saying, “I'm losing my hamper; I am losing my...”

Dhanush went on to say that Sonam is precious to him because she was his first Bollywood co-star. “Not taking away the kindness, sweetness, fun (that) Sara (brought) on the sets of Atrangi Re, Sonam because she was very special; she was my first co-star in Hindi films and a guy from the South coming here, and she made me feel very comfortable and was very kind to me. I am very grateful for that,” he said.

Atrangi Re also stars Akshay Kumar and will be streamed straight on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24, 2021.

Hrithik Roshan is one of the most popular actors in Bollywood. He is known as the Greek God of Bollywood for his looks and physique.  The actor has always impressed fans with his acting skills which have millions swooning over him on social media as well. Recently, the ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ actor met American actress Samantha Lockwood, who is currently in Mumbai. The latter also shared pictures on her Instagram account.

Samantha Lockwood shared the photos from her meet with Hrithik and captioned it as: “Fun to meet this actor who also comes from a movie family, loves action 🎥 and Hawaii … superstar @hrithikroshan” In the photos, Hrithik is seen looking dapper as usual in his white t-shirt and a pair of black pants. Whereas, Samantha dons a pink colorful printed poncho outfit with black pants.

There are reports also stating that Samantha and Hrithik will be teaming up for a new project together. However, an official confirmation is yet to be made.

On the work front, Hrithik was last seen in the 2019 film, ‘War’ alongside Tiger Shroff in the lead roles while Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Anupriya Goenka, and Soni Razdan play supporting roles, directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films. It went to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019 and one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.

Hrithik Roshan will star next in ‘Vikram Vedha,’ with Saif Ali Khan which is a remake of the Tamil film with the same name starring R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi released in 2017. The film is slated to release on September 30, 2022. Besides that, Hrithik also has ‘Fighter’ with Deepika Padukone in the pipeline, which is set to release on 26 January 2023.
